The good news? The most anticipated lesbian film of the year, Carol, is finally available in theaters today. The bad news: Only in theaters in NY and LA that is. And in those cities a whooping two theaters each. Well let’s hope the opening network gets  a good response so the rest of the country gets to experience this landmark film.

Carol has been a film festival darling.  A stunning 50’s period piece, Carol, explores the relationship between two women during a time when same sex love was challenging and sometimes dangerous. Cate Blanchett plays Carol, an older woman in a loveless marriage who meets 20-something Therese (Rooney Mara) and an immediate connection brings them together. Based on the Patricia Highsmith novel The Price of Salt and directed by Todd Haynes the film won the Queer Palm at the 68th Cannes Film Festival and Rooney Mara took home the award for Best Actress. The film releases theatrically on November 20, 2015.
