If you aren’t familiar with Pretty Little Liars it is a TV show on ABC Family. Based on the young-adult novels by Sara Shepard the show is a suspense thriller, crime drama and romance all rolled into one. The show follows four best friends Spencer Hastings (Troian Bellsario), Hanna Marin (Ashley Benson), Aria Montgomery (Lucy Hale) and Emily Fields (Shay Mitchell) in the wake of their friend Alison DiLaurentis’ (Sasha Pieterse) death. The immediate mystery is who killed Alison. But soon the girl are tormented by the anonymous “A” who threatens to spill their secrets if they don’t do what “A” wants. Through the first four seasons is full of twists and turns and while some mysteries get solved more pop up to take their place. The resolutions sometimes defy logic and despite the foursome being generally intelligent young women their decision making is sometimes questionable. But it’s always a fun ride.
Why should you watch Pretty Little Liars? Aside from the fact that the lead actress are eye candy and have wardrobes most runway models would covert, one of the leads is gay. Emily, the star swim athlete of the teenage quartet, realizes in the first season that she would really rather be kissing girls. She eventually gets involved with Paige McCullers (Lindsay Shaw) and they are one of the cutest couple on TV. Shipper name: Paily. I don’t know what if anything Season 5 has in store for Emily and Paige, but you can be sure Emily will always be our token lesbian on the “A” team.
