Concussion is a smart, sexy look at one lesbian’s mid-life crisis. Robin Weigert plays Abby Ableman, a housewife and mother of two, in a marriage suffering from lesbian bed death. A baseball to the side of her head prompts her to re-examine her life. To fill the void, she goes back to work, seeks the company of prostitutes and eventually becomes one. Her worlds collide when her neighbor Sam Bennett becomes one of her clients. The lovely and talented Maggie Siff plays Sam. In the interest of full disclosure, I have loved Maggie Siff since she played Rachel on Mad Men. Her presence in this movie makes it almost impossible for me to not like it. Having Maggie Siff play a leading role in a lesbian movie is like manna from heaven.
Weigert gives a strong performance as the conflicted Abby through her sometimes awkward transition to call girl. Siff is captivating as the woman becomes a little more attached to her neighbor/call girl than Abby is expecting.
