Orphan Black Season 2, episode 9 airs on BBC America. If you haven’t been watching Season 2, don’t start with episode 9! Go to Amazon or iTunes and catch up. Or wait until July when the DVD is released. Orphan Black is a sci-fi thriller featuring Tatiana Maslany as several characters, all of whom are clones. Central to the story is a lesbian love affair between one of the clones, Cosima and a French scientist.
The Fosters summer premiere on ABC Family The Fosters, is a family drama about a lesbian couple with five kids. One is biological, two are adopted and two are foster children. The show is a heart warming and sometimes heart-rending drama. Jennifer Lopez is one of the executive producers.
Rizzoli & Isles
Season 5 premieres on TNT. To be fair, Rizzoli & Isles is not “technically” a lesbian show. But it is a lesbian favorite. It’s a procedural police drama with two leading ladies with off the charts chemistry and there is plenty of lesbian subtext. It has been called the gayest straight show on TV.
House of Cards
Season 2 is released on DVD. It is already available on Netflix Streaming. The lesbian storyline in Season 2 is very secondary in this political drama. Rachel Posner, the call girl, falls for an sweet girl who sings in the church choir. Although they don’t get a lot of screen time the actresses put in strong performances. Order DVD
Vic + Flo Saw a Bear
Vic + Flo Saw a Bear is released on DVD. I have not seen this film but here is the synopsis. Vic + Flo Saw a Bear is a darkly mysterious tale of two lesbian ex-cons, Victoria and Florence, trying to make a new life in the backwoods of Quebec. Seeking peace and quite, the couple slowly begin to feel under siege as Vic’s probation office keeps unexpectedly popping up and a strange woman in the neighborhood soon turns out to be a sinister force from Flo’s past. With its collection of complex and eccentric characters, unexpected plot twists and unsettling humor, director Denis Côté (Curling, Bestiaire) weaves a breathlessly original film that is at once a deadpan comedy, exciting revenge thriller, and complex rumination on the meaning of fate.
